How to Create an API Key

Kala provides an accessible API that enables integration with your other systems – for example payroll or accounting systems. This API is part of what our internal applications use. To access the open API, you will need an API key.

Creating Your API Key

Web API access allowed from External Systems?

  1. Access Settings:
    • In Kala, navigate to the Settings menu.
  2. Go to Advanced Settings:
  3. Enable External Systems:
    • Look for External Systems (search for “API” if necessary) and enable the option Web API access allowed from External Systems?
  4. Return to Settings:
    • Once enabled, you’ll see the API Keys section within the settings menu. This will take you to a page where you can view, edit, and create API keys.
  5. Click on Create New API Key.
  6. Name and Save Your Key:
    • Enter a name for your new key and click Save.

The new key has been created and will appear in the list of API keys. From here, you can also delete keys as needed.

Important Note on API Keys

API keys provide unrestricted access to edit and view data in your Kala organization and are not tied to a specific employee. Therefore, it’s essential to never share your API keys with others and to store them securely. If you suspect that unauthorized persons have gained access to one or more of your API keys, immediately delete them via Kala. Do not hesitate to contact our support team if necessary.
